A2 Milk and Ready When You Are Iced Coffee & Chocolate Guide

Today I want to talk about a2 Milk and what makes it different, and share a simple trick to have iced coffee or iced chocolate ready whenever you like.

First, let’s clarify what a2 Milk is and why it stands out:

Most conventional cow’s milk contains a mixture of A1 and A2 beta-casein proteins. Some research, including work from Curtin University, suggests that the A1 protein may trigger digestive discomfort in some people. a2 Milk is produced from cows selectively bred to naturally produce only the A2 protein and not A1. For those who feel uncomfortable after drinking regular cow’s milk, the difference may be due to the A1 protein, and switching to a2 Milk could help.

Speaking from personal experience, I used to feel heavy and bloated after ordering coffee at cafes. At home I had switched to almond milk because regular cow’s milk caused discomfort, but I didn’t enjoy the flavor of almond milk and found it expensive. Since switching to a2 Milk, I can enjoy the true taste of my coffee again without that heavy feeling in my stomach.

If you experience digestive discomfort after drinking regular cow’s milk but haven’t been diagnosed with lactose intolerance, your symptoms might be related to the A1 protein rather than lactose. Trying a2 Milk could be worthwhile.

Now that I’m happily drinking a2 Milk, I’m looking forward to iced coffees as the weather warms up, and the kids can enjoy iced chocolates too.

Ingredients

2 tbsp granulated coffee or cocoa powder (for iced chocolate)
2 tbsp sugar
1 cup boiling water

Instructions

1. In a jug, combine the coffee (or cocoa) and sugar, then add the boiling water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

2. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze until solid.

3. When you’re ready for an iced coffee, use about six coffee ice cubes (adjust to taste) and pour a2 Milk over them.

As the coffee ice cubes melt, they release coffee flavor into the milk, creating a refreshingly cold drink that stays flavorful without becoming diluted. I especially enjoyed crunching on an ice cube for an extra burst of coffee.

Normally a milk-forward drink would have been off-limits for me because of the uncomfortable feeling afterward, but with a2 Milk that heavy, unpleasant sensation didn’t occur. The difference is noticeable.
