Orange Doughnuts with Orange Glaze are simpler to make than you might expect. Bake a batch of these tender doughnuts for a bright breakfast treat!
Orange Doughnuts with Orange Glaze
I’ve been craving doughnuts lately. I’m not usually a big breakfast person—toast and coffee are my go-to—but doughnuts are an exception. I often just take one, while the rest of the family enjoys the batch. These doughnuts are tender and have a gentle orange flavor that’s perfect for a relaxed weekend morning or a special brunch.
The orange flavor is subtle and pleasant, and the texture is soft and tender. They’re ideal for serving at a weekend breakfast or for occasions like Mother’s Day. They feel special without being difficult to make.

Ingredients
For the doughnuts
- 3 ¼ cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- Pinch salt
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
- ⅔ cup orange juice
- ¼ cup butter, melted, 1/2 stick
For the glaze
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
- 3 tablespoons orange juice
Instructions
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, beat the eggs, sugar and vanilla until thick and pale. In a small bowl, mix the grated orange peel, orange juice and melted butter.
-
Add the orange juice mixture and the dry ingredients alternately to the egg mixture, beating with an electric mixer just until combined after each addition. Cover the dough and chill for at least 2 hours.
-
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to 3/8-inch thickness. Cut with a floured 2½-inch doughnut cutter. Fry in oil heated to 375°F, about one minute per side, turning once. Drain the doughnuts on a rack set over paper towels.
-
Whisk the glaze ingredients together until smooth. Dip the tops of the doughnuts into the glaze and place them glazed-side up on the rack to set.
Notes
- For a lemon variation, substitute lemon juice and lemon zest for the orange.
